Homeworld multiplayer kit
Released in 1999, Relic Entertainment’s classic Homeworld occupies a place in many gamers’ hearts. So ahead of its time that it remains a complex and fun strategy game today, it spawned two sequels and numerous imitators. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Homeworld’s release, we’ve set up this quick-start kit for new and old players alike. Grab a copy somewhere for a couple bucks (or download the Raider Retreat demo), download the latest patch, and hop into one of the best multiplayer games around.
Essentials:
- GameRanger (required for network play), and either:
- Homeworld and the 1.05 patch, or
- Homeworld Raider Retreat, the standalone demo (details).
- Please note that Homeworld is not compatible with Raider Retreat, and that both may be installed simultaneously!
It’s highly recommended that new players take the time (less than a half hour) to run through the very complete tutorial before hopping online. And if anybody gives you tips like typing ACCESS with the mothership selected, try it against a cpu first!
Extras:
- The Relicnews Forums host the Community Games Network, where you can find opponents and talk shop
- Random gameplay tips from the Relicnews Forums; many more threads in the War Room section
- There are plenty of mods out there, but make sure your opponents have them installed as well
