Pilotview How-To
It seems there are a lot of people out there that are having problems getting the Pilot View working at all. This will be an attempt to try to help those poor folk along.
First, you must have the newest HW Patch (as of this writing v1.04). Then you need to realize that to enable Pilot view you need to put in the /pilotView switch.
Here’s a step by step walk-through:
If you have a HW icon on your desktop:
- Right click on the icon.
- Select Properties (in most/all cases the last item on the pop-up menu)
- Now a window should pop up that looks something like this:

- Now edit the target text box so it reads something like x:homeworldhomeworld.exe /pilotView , where x is the drive that homeworld resides on.
- Now click Apply.
And you’re done!
If you don’t have a HW icon on your desktop for one reason or another:
- Click on your start Menu
- Go to settings
- Then the Taskbar & Start Menu
- Select the “Start Menu Programs Tab”
- Under “Customize start menu”, choose “Advanced”
- Now an Explorer type window will pop up, find your Homeworld folder, which should be under Programs/Sierra/Homeworld.
- Now right-click on the Homeworld icon and proceed to edit the Target textbox as per the instructions above.
To get pilot view working within the game, you need only to focus on a unit and then press “Q”, this will put you into the pilot view. You can then “jump” from one unit to another by alt focusing. You can even put yourself in the pilot view of enemy / allied ships.
Also, when in pilot view you can give the attack and move orders as you usually would be able to do.
Enjoy!
